Ways to save while Traveling
So, you want to travel, but you want to do it frugally? No problem! With the advent of the internet, there came a slew of information for all travelers to benefit from. With a few keywords, you are on your way to saving money while you travel, but just in case, here are my top ways to save while traveling:
Avoid the Toll Roads:
Toll roads are expensive. If you want to save money while traveling, set your Google maps options to avoid the toll roads especially in cities you are unfamiliar with. You never know when you will travel over a $20 bridge or have to hop off the toll road and pay to get back on. If you want to save more while traveling it often times pays to take the scenic route. One of our all-time favorite places to visit is Michigan.
Why Michigan you ask?
Because Michigan doesn’t have any Toll Roads which results in savings for us when we travel. It takes us less than 10 hours to get to Michigan, and once we arrive there are lots of great things to see and do. Some of our favorite stops include Lake Superior and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Mackinac Island and so many more places. Every single time we have gone to Michigan we see a new and exciting location and each one is as beautiful as the location before.
On one of our trips, we suffered a car breakdown and the folks at Westborn Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram got us back on the road in record time. While it wasn’t cheap, it was affordable and the folks at Westborn Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram didn’t take advantage of the situation as many places do. Making it one of my top recommendations for all vehicle needs while on the road. Here are a few more ways we save while traveling too!
Pack Snacks and Food:
Stopping at a gas station and fast food stops for food can really burn a hole in your pocket. Instead of paying $2 or more for a bag of chips, buy all your snack food, drinks, and lunches ahead of time. Buying in bulk is, also, a great way to save money while traveling.
Budget your Gas
Calculate the amount of gas you’re going to spend before traveling. It can always be tempting to take a detour or spend more at the gas station than you intended to. Sites like gasbuddy.com can help you budget and prepare for the amount of gas you will save.
Plan your Trip Ahead of Time:
Planning your activities, pre-buying hotel rooms, and rental cars, and shopping for free things to do is going to get you the most out of your trip. Every aspect of traveling can cost money. From the hotels and gas to the activities and restaurants. Plan your trip ahead of time with all-inclusive packages or pre-pay for your activities with deal sites like Groupon.
You should never head into a trip unprepared. Planning saves you when you travel.
