Top 7 Things To See & Do In Atlantic City

Atlantic City is one of the most popular destinations in the US, and has rightfully earned its place on many a traveler’s “must see” list. If you have never visited Atlantic City before, here’s the top seven things to see, do, and experience in what is affectionately known as “the World’s Playground”…

#1 – Walk the boardwalk

It would be impossible to discuss Atlantic City without focusing on the iconic and historic boardwalk. In total, the boardwalk spans four miles, and it’s definitely worth taking a stroll along its entire length in order to make sure you can soak in the full ambience. There are shops selling souvenirs and gifts, exciting arcade games, food stalls and eateries, live music to listen to, and so much more besides. The atmosphere along the entire boardwalk is lively and inviting, so you can be sure every single step will be a complete joy.

#2 – Catch a live event

Over the years, Atlantic City has developed a strong reputation for being able to provide fantastic entertainment to its visitors, so seeing one of the many available live events during your time in the city is essential. From Boardwalk Hall events to the amazing range of live entertainment available at the Borgata, you’re sure to be able to find something that suits your preferences exactly. What’s more, the events calendar continues throughout the year, so you can always be sure of a great evening of entertainment whenever you choose to visit.

#3 – Enjoy the thrills at Steel Pier

Steel Pier branches off the main boardwalk, and bills itself as “Atlantic City’s oldest theme park”. The pier dates back to the late 19th century, but has managed to remain robustly up-to-date over the intervening centuries, and is now top of the “must see” list for any theme park fan. Attractions at the pier include two roller coasters (“Crazy Mouse” and “Loco Motion”), a plethora of family-friendly rides (such as a carousel and Flying Dutchman), countless games, and the simply-named The Wheel providing the opportunity to see the surrounding area from the air, anyone and everyone is sure to have a fantastic time at Steel Pier.

#4 – Head to the beach

The Atlantic City beach has a reputation for being clean and well-maintained, so you can be absolutely confident of a pleasant time. You can sit back on the beautiful golden sand, admire the ocean, and kick back and relax the day away. Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for something a little more action-packed, then head for the water and try your hand at bodyboarding. What’s more, you can access the beach completely for free, so you can spend time on the sands as often as you wish during your time in the city.

#5 – Visit the Atlantic City Aquarium

Aquariums are fairly common in seaside towns and cities, but Atlantic City have taken this tradition and taken it a step further. With plenty of interesting exhibits and opportunities to see, touch, and learn more about various creatures, the aquarium is a great way to spend an afternoon in the city. If at all possible, try to schedule your visit to coincide with one of the stingray feedings, which take place at midday and 3pm every day.

#6 – Climb the Absecon Lighthouse

Originally constructed in the 1950s, the Absecon lighthouse – which is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey, and the third tallest in the country –  is still standing proud today. Though no longer in full operation, the light continues to shine each night, and the black and white bands around the exterior are easily visible from various points around the city. When visiting, you will be able to explore several different exhibits, including a full recreation of the keepers’ quarters, and climb the 228 steps to the watch room to enjoy a genuinely spectacular view over the surrounding area.

#7 – Venture a little further afield

Atlantic City is a complete destination in and of itself, but it can also be a base for further adventures a little further along the shore if you so wish. The nearby Cape May, for example, is a great choice for a day trip. You’ll need to travel around 45 miles by car, but the destination easily justifies the journey: you can admire the historical houses, take a trip to the beach, and just soak up the relaxed atmosphere before heading back to Atlantic City to make the most of the evening’s entertainment.

In conclusion

If you’re in the midst of choosing your next vacation, look no further than the incredible Atlantic City and the amazing experiences the area can provide.
