10 Tips for Staying at an All-Inclusive Resort

You’ve booked an all-inclusive vacation at an exotic resort. This vacation can either be a dream or a disaster.

Not all all-inclusive resorts are the same. Some are fantastic value and the right amount fun for the price. Others are “affordable” or “budget-friendly” in such a way that your fun is at risk due to poor resort conditions.

With all-inclusive vacations rising in popularity, be sure you know how to get the most out of your vacation! Here are ten tips for staying at an all-inclusive resort.

1. Set a Budget

But an inclusive trip includes everything!

You still need a budget.

Airfare, local travel to and from the resort, souvenirs, and other extras might not come with your “all-inclusive” vacation package.

Most resorts don’t include tips for housekeeping or other services, either.

Make sure that extra spa time or the offshore excursion is within your overall vacation budget.

2. Investigate the Word “Luxury”

“Luxury” can mean different things to different people.

Your luxury resort might advertise itself at a higher standard than the travel accommodations you might want.

If a price on a luxury, all-inclusive vacation seems too good to be true, it might be. Check reviews for the resort. Ask questions before booking.

It’s not worth your valuable vacation time and money to book a resort that isn’t up to your standards–despite its proclamation of “luxury.”

If you’re looking for “true” luxury, consider these luxurious resorts.

3. Consider Off-Season for Better Deals

If you do have a luxury resort in mind, but the price is out of reach, consider changing the dates of your trip.

You can often find better all-inclusive deals (including combination airfare and accommodations) during the off-season.

Resorts need to fill rooms, even when it’s not the peak holiday travel times of the year. Take advantage of lower rates if you can be flexible about when you travel.

4. Know What to Pack

Some resorts offer basic personal amenities. Other resorts don’t. However, you don’t want to overpack toothpaste when you can “squeeze” in an extra swimsuit or a cute dinner dress.

One of the best resort tips is to make sure you know what to pack before you go. Check with your travel agent or contact the resort directly to find out what they provide.

5. Take Care of the Details

If you book a trip online, be sure to work through all of the details. Never assume a website handles all of the details for you.

Confirm every leg of your trip, from getting to and from the airport, flight details, and the location of your resort once you arrive.

All-inclusive packages make booking a vacation easy. Sometimes it’s tempting to assume you’re ready to go on your trip when you hit “confirm” on your booking site.

Don’t risk missing a flight or arriving at an airport with no way to make it to your resort.

6. Research the Area

This tip falls under “safety first.”

When searching for reviews about the resort, research your destination area. The exotic locale surrounding the resort might seem like a flawless, magical destination.

However, it’s critical to make sure your all-inclusive oasis isn’t in the middle of a dangerous area or prone to travel advisories. If you take an adventure off property, the resort isn’t responsible for your safety.

Aside from safety, research the culture and see the sights! Be a tourist and experience more than the resort offers.

7. Research the Resort

Consider this “safety second.”

You’ve already researched the resort to make sure it meets your level of standards for luxury. Be sure you also research it for any information about guest safety.

Google the name of the resort. Check for articles or reports about illness or other issues taking place at your destination.

Advertising comes from the resort and can make any place look safe and fun. Look elsewhere to confirm what the resort shows you about their property and services are valid.

8. Get to Know the Concierge

The concierge is there to help you make the most of your all-inclusive trip!

Find them on the first day of your vacation. Ask questions about the resort, spa services, excursions away from the property, and the best things to do while you’re there.

9. Book Your Meals Right Away

We understand that on vacation, you don’t want to plan anything! If it’s all-inclusive, you want to show up and let your vacation take its course.

However, sometimes all-inclusive resorts have limited seating at peak meal times.

You can leave your meals to chance. But, you might enjoy your time at the resort a little better know you have a spot at the table when you know you like to eat.

Don’t worry about making reservations for every meal. Pick a few nights to schedule dinner, then let your stomach guide you when to eat the rest of the trip!

10. Don’t Overdo It

It’s easy to eat and drink as much as you want when you’re not handing over a credit card after every meal.

Pace yourself. Just because it’s there, and it’s “free,” doesn’t mean you have to eat it all.

You’ll have a more enjoyable vacation if you feel well. Sample a little of everything, then take a walk on the beach.

Make the Most of Your All-Inclusive Resort Vacation

Don’t limit yourself to the basics! Do your research to make the most of your all-inclusive resort vacation.

The resort makes it easy for you not to worry about paying separately for every meal or drink. Know what to expect, take advantage of great package deals, and get away for a while.
